David's Vision
From my childhood, where those walks in the fields and woods; those eager feelings of curiosity and wonder of a bird, flower, trees, and storms; those responses to the sounds and unknown realities of the natural world all began to shape and structure my mind. I believe that music, dance, sciences, and the visual arts (how we feel and understand) are as much a part of our biology as the fundamentals of air, water, and food. The more I look at nature to draw, print, and paint images the more I see and understand our vast earth and the depths of ocean and sky.
David's Background
David is a local artist in Somerville, Tennessee. He attended the University of Memphis and graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology, the Memphis College of Art where he received a Bachelors of Fine Arts, and the University of Indiana where he received his Master of Fine Arts. Many of David's early and mid-career works centered around the desolate Horn Island in the Gulf of Mexico and printing of books and broadsides with Ke Francis and Fred Burton. Many of his works were focused in print-making and large mixed-media drawings. Currently, David is focused on various approaches to wood cuts, experimental media, and three-dimensional drawing.
